病毒是一種個(gè)體微小，結構簡(jiǎn)單，只含一種核酸（DNA或RNA），必須在活細胞內寄生并以復制方式增殖的非細胞型生物。
病毒是一種非細胞生命形態(tài)，它由一個(gè)核酸長(cháng)鏈和蛋白質(zhì)外殼構成，病毒沒(méi)有自己的代謝機構，沒(méi)有酶系統。因此病毒離開(kāi)了宿主細胞，就成了沒(méi)有任何生命活動(dòng)、也不能獨立自我繁殖的化學(xué)物質(zhì)。它的復制、轉錄和轉譯的能力都是在宿主細胞中進(jìn)行，當它進(jìn)入宿主細胞后，它就可以利用細胞中的物質(zhì)和能量完成生命活動(dòng)，按照它自己的核酸所包含的遺傳信息產(chǎn)生和它一樣的新一代病毒。
